In response to changes in UK Home Office rules for Tier 4 student visas, the University of Leeds will be taking the following approach to English Language tests taken AFTER the 5th of April:

1.For degree level study and above a SELT is not required. Leeds will exercise its power of discretion and continue to accept a wide range of language qualifications, including IELTS from ALL test centres, Pearson Test of English, TOEFL iBT etc. for entry to Master, PhD and Undergraduate degrees. 2.For below degree level study a SELT is required. Universities have no discretion powers in these cases. This means we must use the new restricted UKVI list of Secure English Language Tests for entry to Pre-sessional language, Foundation Year and any other programme below degree level. Any student hoping to join Leeds before November 5th 2015 who took an IELTS or Pearson SELT BEFORE April 5th will be admitted under the previous UKVI rules. This means students can use a pre April 5th IELTS or Pearson as a SELT for entry to Pre-sessional and Foundation this summer and September. If in any doubt please contact the Admissions Enquiries team (http://study@leeds.ac.uk).
计划2015年11月5日之前入读利兹大学的同学，如果在4月5日之前考了雅思或者Pearson的，依旧遵循UKVI旧规定。这就是说学生可以用4月5日之前的雅思或Pearson考试成绩作为SELT入读今年夏天和九月份开学的课前语言及预科课程。如果有疑问请联系Admissions Enquiries team (study@leeds.ac.uk).
Please note that the number of IELTS centres which can issue a SELT after April 5th has been significantly reduced and so it is important that pre-sessional and foundation students book their tests in good time. IELTS has assured UK universities that the approved SELT centres will have enough places to meet demand and will be able to provide tests within a month. We believe many UK universities are taking the same approach as Leeds and using their discretion powers to admit students to degrees using IELTS from non SELT centres. We hope this will reduce the pressure on the SELT approved centres. Please contact Admissions Enquiries as soon as possible if your students do experience delays so that we can report this to UKVI.

The changes have no impact on students who might be entering the UK on short term Student Visitor Visas.
