曼彻斯特大学（英语：Univerity of Mancheter）是英国规模最大的单一校址大学，位于英格兰北部大城曼彻斯特。校内现有四万余名学生就读五百多个科系或学程，教职员超过一万人，年度预算达六亿英镑。该校每年收到六万件来自全世界的入学申请，为全英之冠。根据泰晤士报报道：“曼彻斯特大学几乎在所有学科都有可敬的声望，其中又以生命科学、工程、人文、经济学、社会学、与社会科学为最。”另外曼彻斯特商学院也在全球排名第25。曼彻斯特大学图书馆（约翰·莱兰兹图书馆）的藏书规模位居全英大学第三，仅次于牛津大学和剑桥大学。
学校简介
曼彻斯特大学，简称曼大，是一所拥有光辉历史的国际一流大学，在这里诞生了25位诺贝尔奖获得者。该校拥有极高的国际声誉，世界排名第29。 根据英国高等教育基金委员会（RAE）在2008年12月18日颁布的英国研究型大学排名（七年评一次，英国高等教育官方排名），曼大位列第4，仅次于剑桥，牛津与帝国理工。值得一提的是，曼彻斯特商学院（MBS）是曼大的金牌学院，拥有众多知名校友，并且在世界商学院排名中位列前30。
曼大位于英格兰中北部的曼彻斯特市（英国第二大城市）。曼大的前身分别是始建于1824年的曼彻斯特理工大学（UMIST）和建于1851年的欧文斯学院（1880年升格为维克多利亚曼彻斯特大学）。这两所世界一流学府经过上百年的独立发展，终于宣布于2004年10月22日合二为一，成为现在的曼彻斯特大学。目前她是英国规模最大的单一校址大学。校内现有四万余名学生就读五百多个科系或学程，教职员超过一万人，其中很多是享誉世界的著名科学家。曼大拥有先进的教学设施，完善的研究和实验设备。全校共有6000多部电脑，每一名在校学生都拥有自己的电子信箱地址。曼大的图书馆（John Ryland Univerity Library）是英国三大图书馆之一，藏书360万册。为了丰富学生们的课余生活，曼大为学生们提供了良好的体育活动场所，其中两个室内运动中心，两个大型户外运动场可供学生们使用。
学校环境
曼彻斯特大学座落在世界上第一座工业化城市&mdah;&mdah;英国曼彻斯特市。从曼城每天有数趟火车直达伦敦，全程仅需2个小时。公共巴士经过大学直达曼彻斯特国际机场，仅需50分钟。
曼彻斯特并号称英国“知识之都”，是英国最生机勃勃和重要的城市之一，也是国际公认的技术、工业和学习中心，备受英国本国和海外学生的青睐。在流行文化、尤其是音乐、时装、设计可与伦敦相媲美。而生活费用远低于伦敦。在英格兰，该市的中国城之大仅次于伦敦，这里各种风味的地道中国餐馆比比皆是。此外，曼彻斯特城还是世界最有名气的足球队之一&mdah;&mdah;曼彻斯特联队的故乡。

学术实力
曼彻斯特大学具有出色的研究和教学的悠久历史。本世纪很多关键的科学技术研究成果均出在这里，括飞机发动机的研制，世界上第一台计算机工作和原型的诞生（1948年），而Rutherford的工作最终实现了原子的裂变……
曼大以教学严谨，学术风气自由而著称，创新作为教学和学术研究的主导思想，已经形成传统。创新和卓越是曼彻斯特大学研究工作的基础，她的科研工作达到了世界先进水平，这里曾诞生了25位诺贝尔奖得主，占英国诺贝尔奖总数的1/4。众多知名校友使得大学声誉更上一个台阶。曼大的出色在最近进行的独立教学质量与科研水平评估中得到了充分证明，46个项目中的37个获得了5分和最高的5*英国RAE研究排名（英国高等教育排名，每7年评选一次，最为权威，上一次评选为2008年）中，曼彻斯特大学已经跻身全英前5的研究型大学，名列全英研究实力前6强。
曼彻斯特大学的目标是“保持研究工作的最高标准”，这一目标也体现在大学对教学的重视上。大学规模大，下设的生命科学院、医学院、人文学院、理工学院4大学院专业设置广泛；曼大开设的学科种类繁多，数量远远超过一般大学。学校的经济、法律、商科、计算机、电子、航空制造、建筑设计、医学、药理学、心理学、生命科学、音乐及艺术等课程都为世界一流水准。提供从大学本科，硕士，直至博士生的全方位课程。学生可以从100多个专业系的众多课程中进行灵活选择。
值得一提的是曼大现有25位诺贝尔奖获得者。最新捷报：
瑞典科学院一间会议室内，当地时间11时45分（北京时间2010年10月5日17时45分），诺贝尔物理学奖揭晓。英国曼彻斯特大学科学家安德烈·海姆和康斯坦丁·诺沃肖洛夫5日以石墨烯研究获得2010年度诺贝尔物理学奖。诺贝尔物理学奖评审委员会说，之所以授予这两位俄罗斯裔科学家物理学奖，是为了奖励他们“研究二维材料石墨烯的开创性实验”。
学校设施
曼彻斯特大学学生可以享用到英国大学中最好的设施。曼大拥有的约翰赖兰斯大学图书馆（John Ryland Univerity Library，分新、老两馆）是全英国第三大学术类图书馆，两馆共藏有400多万册各类纸质书籍与期刊，以及100余万电子书刊，还有几百个数据库。图书馆提供网络链接，使学生可以在世界的每一个角落通过互联网读取主图书馆内的丰富资源。此外，有九个专业系还配备了自己的图书馆（室）资源，其中大多向所有曼大学生开放。十一个图书馆既有分工又有协作，保持良好的沟通交流，共同维持着整个图书馆系统的良好运作。此外，曼大的分子细胞生物学综合中心是全英最优秀的生物科学中心；人文学院设施精良，新建有造价600万英镑的音乐与戏剧学院。
为丰富学生的课外生活，曼彻斯特大学修建了两个室内运动中心；两个室外运动场和曼彻斯特水上活动中心（2002年英联邦运动会游泳等项目的比赛就是在曼大的水上运动中心举行的），足以满足开展大部分体育运动的需要。大学拥有的曼彻斯特博物馆全年向公众免费开放。另外学生联合会还提供包括咖啡馆、食品店、银行、夜总会等一系列娱乐服务。
学校全年提供9,200间各类宿舍。宿舍均有共享或单独的电话、Internet接口、厨房、厕所、浴室及洗衣房。无论环境还是设施均为英国大学一流水准。单人房每周住宿费用从70英镑-120英镑不等，此外还有少数可供家庭住宿的双人及三人间宿舍，学生可以根据个人需要自由选择。
学生生活
曼大UP大楼
国际学生福利部为所有在曼彻斯特大学学习的国际学生提供支持服务。该部门在各个不同领域为学生提供意见和信息，包括移民事项、工作许可证、财政、资金、专业和个人问题。所有国际学生都免费自动成为国际社团成员。该社团将来自世界各国的学生聚结在一起，发展友谊、共同学习。学联提供的服务种类繁多，既有咨询和信息中心，也有餐饮和娱乐服务。
几乎所有想象力可触及的每一种兴趣爱好都有一个学生组织，跳伞协会、电影爱好者协会、巧克力狂热者协会等等，数不胜数。从福利到专业问题，学生信息和意见中心都为学生提供服务。大多数学生都有一名自己所在院、系的专业导师，不管是专业的或其他问题，学生都可以从导师处寻求意见或建议。
学校历史
新曼彻斯特大学由维多利亚曼彻斯特大学和曼彻斯特理工大学（UMIST）合并而成。
曼大的历史最早可追溯到1824年，1824年曼彻斯特机械学院创办，后发展成为曼彻斯特理工大学。
维多利亚曼彻斯特大学创办于1851年，那时称作欧文斯学院（Owen College），命名来自于欧文先生，一位纺织商人。正是他用96，294英镑创办了这所学院。此后，曼彻斯特欧文斯学院首先发起了“市立大学运动”，并在1851年成为第一批被英国政府颁发特许的市立大学。由于这些大学大多有红砖的校园建筑，英国人统称这些大学叫做“红砖大学”（Red Brick Univerity）,全英国仅有6所大学享有这一地位，分别是布里斯托尔大学、谢菲尔德大学、伯明翰大学、利兹大学、维多利亚曼彻斯特大学（原欧文斯学院）和利物浦大学。她们都是英国最顶尖的老牌名校，这个称谓主要是有别于牛津和剑桥大学。
2003年3月5日，维多利亚曼彻斯特大学宣布在2004年10月22日与曼彻斯特理工大学合并，从此组成了英国最大的大学，新的学校被称为曼彻斯特大学。
学校校训
曼彻斯特大学
该校的校训是“Arduu Ad Solem”，字面意思是“面朝太阳”，有积极启蒙的意思。该格言出自维吉尔（Virgil）的叙事诗《埃涅伊德》（Aeneid），但选用这个格言的原因早已无从考证。在《埃涅伊德》中，这个引证提及大毒蛇和太阳，有趣的是，在曼大的传统校徽中，这两样东西都有所刻绘。
院校特色
教研成果杰出：迄今共培养出23位诺贝尔奖得主，占英国诺贝尔奖总数的1/4强。在最新的英国政府RAE研究评比中，曼大有80%的科目被评为5*或5，在泰晤士报评选的英国院校研究总体排名中雄居第6位，世界200强大学中，雄居第43位。
曼彻斯特商学院：欧洲最大的商学院之一，在全英及欧洲商学院排行中均名列前茅；设有会计、金融、市场营销、人力资源、国际商务、管理心理学、MBA等全方位课程。
入学要求
开课时的最低年龄18周岁。
申请就读大多数本科课程的中国学生, 最低条件是：
优等高中毕业或同等学历，学习成绩优良，有说服力的推荐信；
圆满修完经认可的基础课程，成绩优良；
IELTS（雅思考试）成绩总分7，单项不低于6，写作7；或托福成绩700分，或其它同等英语水平证明。
申请就读授课式研究生课程之中国学生的最低条件是：
优等名牌大学本科毕业，成绩优良，有说服力的推荐信；
IELTS考试成绩7或托福成绩700分；
奖学金：设有中国学生奖学金，但数量有限。只有突出的学生才能申请到。
